U.S. DOT launches the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) program!
The U.S. Transportation announces a new safety rule that requires healthcare professionals who perform medical examinations for interstate truck and bus drivers to be trained, tested and certified on the specific physical qualifications that affect a driver’s ability to safely operate the vehicle. The final rule also creates a national online database of medical examiners who have completed the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) certification process.
The National Registry medical examiner registration portal is now live so medical examiner candidates may submit their registration online to become certified.
To register, medical examiner candidates need to follow these steps:
- Go to the National Registry website at https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov
- Click "Register to Become Certified" and select "Start Today"
- Enter and confirm all the required information (e.g., contact, medical practice, medical license and training information).
- Click "Submit"
Once your information has been confirmed and submitted, you will receive your National Registry number, temporary password, login instructions, and next steps via email. Keep in mind that you don't have to complete training before you register; however, you will need to register prior to taking the National Registry Certification Test.
The DOT driver certificate now has a new field specifically created to record the medical examiner’s National Registry ID number…so please visit the website to register and receive your NR ID number today!
