U.S. HHS approves Alere Richmond, VA Laboratory for eCCF® paperless process—making Alere the world’s first, second, and currently only laboratories permitted to electronically process drug tests for DOT-regulated employees.
June 13, 2016
Alere is pleased to announce that following successful inspection of its laboratory in Richmond, VA, it has been granted approval from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) National Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP) to utilize an electronic custody and control form process for U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated drug tests.
While non-DOT employers have been processing drug tests electronically through Alere for more than 15 years, employers of DOT-regulated drivers have had to use more cumbersome, time- and labor-intensive hard copy forms. Companies can now process drug tests with the same efficient eCCF® system that non-regulated companies have been using for well over a decade.
Combined with online test management platforms, the use of an electronic chain of custody form will drive protocol consistency, help reduce costs, and modernize administrative functions at the point of collection. Alere has the ability to process DOT-regulated drug tests utilizing the company’s electronically connected Alere eScreen® national network of 3,500 sites.
